This year’s team is in contention for another trip to the championship, and they have a great shot at hoisting Lord Stanley’s cup. Get your Sharks tickets today before they’re all gone.
The Bay Area’s first NHL hockey team, the California Golden Seals, left town in 1976, which led to 25 years without a professional team. Luckily, the Gund family worked out a deal with the NHL, and the Sharks were born. After a couple unsuccessful years playing at the Cow Palace, the team moved to what is now called the SAP Center at San Jose, and that’s when the winning started. In the 1993–94 season, the team made their first NHL Playoffs appearance with a dramatic upset against the Detroit Red Wings, the favorite to win the Stanley Cup. They went on to lose the next round, but the team established themselves as perennial contenders. Thanks to stars like Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton as well as rivalries with the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, the Sharks have built up a loyal fan base that is ready to cheer the roof off the arena.
