Historic Franchise

The team got its start in 1961 as the Washington Senators, formed as an expansion team after the original Senators left for Minnesota. After managing a single winning season during a decade in the District of Columbia, owner Bob Short decided that this team should head west, too. With a new name to honor their home state’s iconic officers of the law, the Rangers made a tradition of night games to escape the summer heat and started making a serious start to their hunt for the playoffs.

Rangers fans have had to wait longer than any other franchise in Major League Baseball for the team’s first World Series title, but there’s been plenty to see along the way. Nolan Ryan finished his career with the Rangers, and the team added names like Jim Sundberg and Iván Rodríguez to the halls of Texas greats. The Rangers were contenders at the World Series twice in a row, in 2010 and 2011, and there’s no better time to pick up a ticket and follow their quest to bring the title back to the Lone Star State.
