What you can expect
See both the city and rural side of New Zealand on an excursion away from your ship. Drive through the breathtaking scenery past Lakes Forsyth on your way to Christchurch Botanical Gardens. Explore the city, and then spend the afternoon at a sheep farm where you can witness how sheep are sheared.
Your guide arrives to collect you from the Akaroa port and lead you on an exciting tour of Christchurch and the Banks Peninsula. Look out your window as the Southern Alps and Canterbury Plains fly by on your journey to Christchurch. Once you're in the city proper, head to the Christchurch Botanical Gardens for a brief visit to see the well-thought-out layout of the plants and flowers.
Leave the gardens behind and venture into the city to see the location of the devastating earthquake that shook the city at its foundation. Your guide tells you about this historic event before you leave to go to a local sheep farm. At the farm, watch as the well-trained dogs herd the sheep with an ease of continuous practice. Pet the fluffy animals, and then learn how they are sheared as you observe the process in person. End your day with a warm cup of tea before returning to the port to catch your cruise ship.
