What you can expect
Meet your guide at the meeting point for a short introduction to the canals of Thonburi. You will then board a traditional wooden longtail boat that will take you on the canals. See the interesting sights along the canals. Your guide will help explain the history of Bangkok and Thailand, as well as dive into the customs of Thai people.
In the old days, Bangkok was comprised of hundreds of small canals or “khlong” in Thai and local people mainly traveled by water. They relied heavily on the waterways as this mode of transportation was faster and more convenient than the land route. Today, most canals in Bangkok have been filled in and converted into streets.
However, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the old capital Thonburi, many of the larger khlongs still exist. On this side of the city, it is still possible to see fields, small family-run farms, and orchid nurseries from the canals. You will make a stop to visit one of these orchid farms.
A canal tour is a must-do for people who like to see the traditional Thai ways of living. It offers a fun way to look at the old Siam, with a few stops to let you experience the lives of the local people.
