What you can expect

Explore the ancient tombs of Sillustani, a pre-Incan necropolis that dates to the indigenous Colla people. The burial ground, which covers a massive stretch of land and features more than 90 stone chullpas (mausoleums), is a surprising reminder of the age and cultural richness of Peru.

Get picked up from your hotel in downtown Puno and travel to the chullpas at Sillustani. This jutting peninsula surrounded by Lake Umayo hosts one of the largest necropolises in the world, with more than 90 stone chullpas, each housing the remains of an ancient noble family.

The structures are huge, more than 40 feet (12 m) tall, and wider at the top than the base. Spend some time exploring the area and enjoying the views of the lake, admiring the pre-Incan construction and design before returning to your hotel.
