Description

Hop aboard a comfortable train and head out of town to explore the charms of Cardiff on this full-day excursion. Pop between intriguing museums and cafe-lined lanes, visit Cardiff Castle, and—depending on the season—enjoy an exploration of the city by hop-on hop-off bus or check out Millennium Stadium.

Meet up with your guide at Paddington Station in central London and hop aboard your Cardiff-bound train. Watch pastoral landscapes and quaint English countryside pass by as you clatter out of town, and hop out when you arrive in Cardiff to start your excursion.

In spring and summer, catch a ride directly from the station in an open-top bus that loops around Cardiff's most notable sights and landmarks, like the the manicured gardens of Cathays Park or the hip shops and restaurants along the waterfront in Cardiff Bay. In colder months, eschew the bus tour for a special trip to the Millennium Stadium, where you can get up-close looks at the pitch where rough-and-tumble rugby players have competed since 1999.

Take the afternoon to explore the city on your own, making sure to leave time for a visit to the 11th-century ramparts of Cardiff Castle. Learn about the Roman fort that once stood on the same grounds and find out what invasions this well-preserved castle had to defend itself against before you head back to Cardiff Station for your return ride to London.

This should not be advertised as a tour at all!!!! The tour agency gave us tickets for the train and the vouchers for the Cardiff Castle and hop on bus. We had to figure out where to go, how to find things in Cardiff by ourselves. We could have bought everything ourselves and probably would have saved a bunch. Nobody was meeting us in Cardiff nobody was advising places to eat or visit beyond what was advertised. We will know better next time...

You are met at Paddington by the tour company. They give you your to/from Cardiff train tickets and the hop on/off bus ticket, tell you what train your on, say the hop on/off bus stop is near the train station in Cardiff and then leaves. When we boarded the train to Cardiff and handed our ticket over, we were told that the ticket was for off peak and the train the tour company had us scheduled for was on peak. Luckily they let us stay on the train. The hop on/off bus stop was extremely difficult to find. We had to ask some passing police officers. There were only about 7 bus stops and nothing was extremely interesting to see. The castle was the highlight. The Mermaid Quay was a joke with only a handful of restaurants and maybe 4 stores. Trying to find souvenir shops was also a chore with us finding only 2 before having to head back to the train station to return to London. Unless you really know where you want to go, don't bother with this tour.

There were no instructions other than a non-specific map on where to get on the bus. When calling the tour company for the bus instructions, they told me to call the company they contracted out to, they said Doctor Who was not opened when it was, and the bus turned back around and didn't pick us up following Doctor Who because they said it was closed despite us trying to wave it down. We had to use Uber for the remainder of our transport. Save your money and just buy train tickets out to Cardiff.
