Description

Cruse out of Porto and dive into the charming villages scattered along the shores of the Douro river. Scope out the elaborate Baroque features of an 18th-century church, sip glasses of strong port wine, and tuck into a delicious lunch while admiring sweeping views of the Bagaúste Dam.

After getting picked up from your Porto hotel, following the snaking bends of the Douro river as it weaves toward Portugal's hilly hinterland. Chat with your guide as you ride through landscapes flecked with aromatic rosemary and groves of stone pine. Reach the riverside town of Amarante, where you can weave down narrow streets lined with Romanesque edifices to reach the 16th-century Church and Convent of São Gonçalo. Spend some time exploring the church's fresco-wrapped columns and colossal pipe organ before heading to the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios in nearby Lamego.

Enjoy the leg-pumping 686-step climb to this ornate sanctuary draped in Baroque and Rococo architectural features, rest your legs in the nearby gardens, and snap photos of the burbling fountain outside before you grab lunch at a riverfront restaurant near the Bagaúste Dam. Chat with your guide about the Douro River's importance to the local economy and infrastructure while you eat, and then make your way back to Porto. On the way, stop off at a local winery for delicious samples of port wine and consider picking up a few bottles to take home.

Excellent guide Marina - good humoured and very entertaining with impressive linguistic skills (English and French). Had a great time despite our nearly new bus breaking down in the morning! The issue was very efficiently dealt with by the arrival of a fleet of replacement smaller buses within an hour so it didn't affect our enjoyment.

Pick up is not at your door, u got to meet them at their designated location. The tour felt rushed and the actual Port tasting was a joke. It was a quick walk in the vineyard and there was barely time to enjoy the Port tasting. Lunch was tasty but the cheapest way to feed a crowd. The guide asked us if we wanted Pork or Chicken and then it was just share plates anyway. Like 1 whole chicken on one plate then another plate with roast pork for the guests to share. For the price, I cannot recommend this tour and was disappointed.
