Description

Embark on a thrilling lake adventure and take in the sights and sounds of a tropical rainforest. Great for both kids and adults, this tour takes you to Gatun Lake, which was at one point the world's largest man-made lake. Travel along picturesque roads that once connected the Panama Canal's support buildings to nearby towns and military bases before taking to the water.

Upon reaching the lake, board a comfortable boat and pass under a wooden bridge that serves as part of the Transisthmian Railway. Stop at Monkey Island to observe up-close the tropical rainforest that supports the functioning of the Panama Canal. Cruise slowly along the banks of the island and watch for monkeys, sloths, toucans, and various other local wildlife.

Leave Monkey Island and head to the animal rescue center Summit Zoo, where the harpy eagle is the main character, as it is our national bird.

I am not impressed at all with the tour. I got to see one money from far away. I feel like the Aventura tour is not very organized. They sent me emails to confirm and 40 minutes later cancelling. On the bright side , the staff from Gamboa resort is exceptional!!! They ran the tour. Aventura only drove me to and from the hotel. I only give 3 stars because of the treatment I received from The Gamboa resort. I recommend the Gamboa Resort and the tour itself is just ok.

The guide did a great job of leading the tour, and was very knowledgeable about the various species and nature on the tour. Feeding the wild monkeys was awesome! The tour is basically two parts: a boat ride through the Gatun Lake and Monkey Island (where the monkeys are!); and a visit to a "summit" (basically a zoo) to see some animals in their cages (jaguar, the harpy eagle, toucans, tapirs, etc.). I wasn't aware of the summit/zoo component until I found myself there. It was enjoyable and informative but the boat ride is definitely the highlight.
