What you can expect

Become one with wildlife at the San Francisco Zoo, home to more than 2,000 exotic and endangered animals from across the globe. Spanning more 100 acres (40 ha) along the shore of the ocean, the zoo is where animal lovers of all ages can get close to mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds.

Divided into 7 main exhibit zones, the San Francisco Zoo boasts more than 2,000 amazing animals coming from the African savannah to the Australian outback to the South American jungle. See silly giraffes and zebras in the African Region, marvel at majestic leopards and lions in the Cat Kingdom, and come face-to-face with wolves and grizzlies out in Bear Country.

In addition to all of the wonderful animals you can see, the zoo is home to immaculate gardens filled with both native plants and exotic species. Admire the bright blooms near the African exhibits and come close to varieties that have survived for millions of years in the Prehistoric Garden. In the browse gardens, the zoo even grows their own eucalyptus, bamboo, and other plants to feed their many koalas, rhinos, and giraffes.

While at the zoo, you can opt to buy admission to other attractions and activities such as carousel rides, animal feedings, and scavenger hunts. Throughout the day, you can also attend free educational programs, with keeper talks held at nearly 20 sites across the zoo.
