Description

Soak up the rich history of Richmond during a guided visit to the Hollywood Cemetery via energy-efficient electric car. A knowledgeable local escorts you through the grounds, revealing the final resting place for esteemed United States presidents, governors, and soldiers.

Join your guide in the Oregon Hill neighborhood of Richmond. From here, climb inside an electric vehicle and prepare for a fascinating introduction to Hollywood Cemetery—named for the emerald-green trees bearing tiny red berries that enshroud the Gothic cemetery and its charming chapel.

Learn about the cemetery's lineage while cruising its meticulous lanes. An array of tasteful headstones and stately mausoleums reveal the individuals and families memorialized here. During the course of your tour, pay your respects at the graves of 2 American presidents, 6 Virginia governors, and 2 Supreme Court justices.

A striking site of interest is a 90-foot (27 m) pyramid, which was erected to consecrate the 18,000 Confederate soldiers laid to rest in 1865. After reflecting on the lives lost during the American Civil War, hear about the role the cemetery played in the establishment of Memorial Day as a national holiday.

Our guide, EL, was great. He provided lots of interesting information and was friendly and pleasant. It was fun to hear about things that occurred well before I was born and to see the resting place of those famous (and not so famous) people behind the stories. A very nice way to spend a couple of hours.
