What you can expect

Discover the intriguing history of downtown Tucson during a guided walking tour of the Turquoise Trail. A knowledgeable docent leads you on a leisurely 2.5-mile (4-km) journey through the city known as Old Pueblo, revealing landmark sites along the way.

History aficionados delight in this tour that unlocks the Tucson of yore. Get started in the heart of present-day Tucson at the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum. From here, your engaging docent leads you along a painted path that begins with the meticulously reconstructed Presidio San Agustín del Tucson and ends at the time-honored Hotel Congress.

Beginning at the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum, toe the turquoise line while you wander toward the Pima County Courthouse, where Spanish Colonial architecture pays homage to the Old Southwest. From here, venture to the Fox Theatre, an Art Deco movie palace founded in 1930. Today, this sparkling edifice is on the National Register of Historic Places and is celebrated for its special acoustone interior, designed to optimize the experience for original “talkie” movie-goers.

Visit a total of 23 sites, concluding your journey through the past with a trip to the Hotel Congress. Here, in 1934, a scorching fire led to the capture of John Dillinger, a notorious felon who had been living at the hotel under a series of aliases. Following the tour, enjoy full-day admission to the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum.
