Katunayake

Upon arrival at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport or Arranged Meeting Point of Interest, be met with your dedicated National Tourist Guide Lecturer / Chauffeur Tourist Guide who is going to be your Local friend during your fabulous expedition in Sri Lanka. After welcoming, your guide will brief about the Tour and you will be transferred to a restaurant within 20mins of drive considering your need of having some refreshments after a tiring flight. There you will taste a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast complete with a Hot cup of ceylon black tea or Coffee. (Will not apply to the members who will meet at the meeting point). Yapahuwa Rock Fortress

En route to Anuradhapura, Explore the Yapahuwa Rock which is a lesser known marvel. This extraordinary granite rock rises sharply to height of 90m from the surrounding jungle plains. This great citadel & military stronghold served as Sri Lanka’s capital in (1273-1284). It was also home to Sri Lanka’s most sacred Buddhist relics including Buddha’s Tooth Relic stored in the Tooth temple. A magnificent ascending staircase is your access way to climbing the rock. Dramatic sweeping views of the central plains rewards the effort to make it to the top. Yapahuwa briefly mentioned in your guidebooks. It is one of many highlights in the local area. The sweeping system of huge reservoirs are teeming with birdlife. Secret Buddhist caves & historic sites are being gradually rediscovered. These are now becoming accessible to visitors. This is done respectfully supporting their protection. The highlights of the region are best ‘discovered’ through accessing local knowledge.

Reswehera (Sesseruwa) Rajamaha Viharaya | රැස්වෙහෙර (සැස්සේරුව) රජ මහා විහාරය

Then head to Reswehera Buddhist Temple which is another less popular landmark. Admittedly, the famous Aukana Buddha Statue is the greater work of art. Nevertheless, many visitors are even more enchanted by the Sasseruwa Buddha. The reason for it is the silence & the beauty of the location, The rock is higher and more secluded, just in the middle of nowhere. The ancient Rasvehera cave monastery & its colossal Sasseruwa Buddha statue, undisturbed by mass tourism, is still an off the beaten track destination, though, as already mentioned, not far from Aukana. But it’s at the remote point of a dead-end road. A part from the rock-cut Sasseruwa Buddha statue, Rasvehera has three more attractions, namely one of the oldest Bo trees of Sri Lanka, painted caves with murals in the Kandyan style, and elephant wildlife. Rasvehera, being a typical Sri Lankan forest monastery from the Anuradhapura period, is still surrounded by wilderness and therefore declared a wildlife conservation area.

Nuwara Wewa

In the Evening, you may enjoy a walk along the Nuwara Wewa Lake bund while getting the beautiful sunset and the pleasant evening atmosphere of the lakeside with songs of numerous birds.

Day 2: Discover the Monastic City of Anuradhapura (UNESCO World Heritage)

Anuradhapura Ancient City

After the breakfast, we depart to enjoy our excursion around Ancient Anuradhapura City, Sri Lanka has a rich culture and a rich history, Anuradhapura was one of the greatest and oldest civilizations in the world to prove that. It was the first capital and ruled by 113 kings for over 1500 years. This excursion will take approximately 6hrs & 30mins to explore all major & important monuments which we can possibly visit within a day. Tour will commence from Isurumuniya Temple & Vessagiriya monastery. Then visit Sri Maha Bodhi, the sacred tree under which ascetic Siddha attained Enlightenment and became Gautama Buddha and that has stood with pride for more than 2200 years. Afterwards, Ruwanweliseya, Abhayagiriya Monastery, and Jethawanaramaya respectively. All of these monuments and ruins embody the ancient culture, heritage, education, trade network and supremacy of the strongest kingdom in Sri Lankan history. Evening, back to our hotel and relax with the calm & quiet surrounding nature.

After enjoying the breakfast you will take a wonderful journey across the stunning Sri Lankan countryside towards Sigiriya, which is a masterpiece of Ancient Sri Lanka’s dynasty. En route to Sigiriya, (within Approx. 1hr 15min of drive) you will enjoy the stopover at Habarana, you’ll engage in a wonderful & lasting Village Tour experience while exploring the inspiring countryside. It is a great opportunity to get close to a unique local culture & exposure to life styles of authentic community. This instance starts with a Bullock Cart Ride, one of the most famous transportation systems in early Sri Lanka. While on the tour you will also enjoy a Catamaran ride on a local tank before reaching the farmer‟s mud house where you will experience the typical Sri Lankan bucolic hospitality and Authentic cooking demonstration followed by a Traditional Sri Lankan Lunch. It‟s an incredible 360 degree viewpoint located opposite of world famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. or optionally we can go on a Canoeing ride at a local lake nearby to catch the Sunset while sitting on a catamaran.

Sigiriya is said to be an Art gallery because of its undisputed impressions blended with nature and human interference with incredible granite works and the enchanting plethora of frescoes. Even if it was literally a Kingdom in a way Sigiriya served as an ancient metropolitan city found in chronicles by means of ancient trade network developed by King Kashyapa in 477 – 495 AD. We will climb to the top to admire the breathtaking views and the magical Man-made constructions on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colorful frescos, You will marvel at this exquisite craftsmanship and enjoy a panoramic view of the boundless forest.

Dambulla Cave Temple

En route to Knuckles Mountain, visit the Golden Cave Temple (UNESCO World splendor) A living Buddhist site that is focused on a series of five cave shrines, with its five cave sanctuaries, it is known to be the largest and best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. This enchanting Plethora of Paintings is covering an area of 2,100 m2 are of particularly important after the golden Statues that could surprise a curious explorer to his bliss. Upon your interest, we may also enjoy the stopover at Matale Spice Gardens to feel the real aroma of Sri Lankan pure spices grown in the cold central highlands. After the breakfast, we drive around the picturesque Kandy Lake and have a panoramic view of Glorious Kandy City. The cultural heart of Sri Lanka, and one of the renowned cities in the island, as surrounding breathtaking hills and misty mountains, The City itself has got a mesmerizing climate throughout the year that attracts people to its unique beauty. Popularly known as “Maha Nuwara” means ‘The Great City”. Kandy is full of magnificent architectural marvels that are blended with Sinhalese, Indian and British designs. After all, the city of Kandy has been one of the most visited and venerated cities among Buddhists from around the world and many other international Travelers. Based on Buddhist architectures, Kandy was the Last Royal Capital of Sri Lankan Kings until the invasion of British in 18th Century. After all these important exhibits, Kandy was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

Natural Gems and Gemmological Museum

Afterwards leave the city center and visit a Gem shop to get to know more about the World-renowned and most prestigious Sri Lankan Gems and Jewelry and how they are being decorated using our traditional techniques. Thereafter take another short movement to a Wood Carving center to observe the talents of Local craftsmen and how do they animate these eye catching wooden creatures.

Hatton

Saying Goodbye to Kandy get on board a train to catch the memorable train ride through lush green and verdant tea plantations in the Central highlands of Sri Lanka up-to Hatton, this ride is the first part of the famous Kandy to Ella Train Ride and one of the most beautiful legs of the Journey and definitely far more picturesque. You will move through the cold and misty hills that host hectares and hectares of lush green tea plantations, farmlands, and forests, as you will get fantastic views of the hill country. the journey will last about 2 hours. In the evening at Hatton, venture through the lush greenery of Hatton, or just enjoy a cup of Ceylon’s finest Tea whilst looking over the surrounding misty sceneries.

Hatton

Hatton is a small town tucked away in the hills of Sri Lanka. Since Hatton is 4,170 ft above sea level, it is much cooler than the rest of the island and was a favourite holiday spot for the British. Today Hatton is best known for its tea and magnificent nature; so wear your walking shoes and get ready to witness Hatton and explore its charming attractions. When one thinks of Hatton the first thing that comes to mind is tea. The whole region is surrounded by green hills covered in acres of tea bushes. One of the best things we can do is walk or hike through a tea plantation or ride a cycle where we will be treated to some amazing views. Let’s be sure to go in the morning though, as the mountains begin to get covered by mist the later it gets and end our tea estate tour with a visit to the factory, where you can even experience a tea-tasting, and observe the rich tradition of making Ceylon Tea that kept alive up to date.

KITHULGALA WHITE WATER RAFTING & ADVENTURES

Conquer the rapids of the picturequese Kelani River at Kitulgala - the heart of white water rafting in Sri Lanka. Upon interest, Enjoy the relaxation at our Hotel or preferably we can head to the River Kelani in Kitulgala, where we will immerse ourselves to indulge our thirsty of water rafting. After coming off the slopes of Adam’s Peak, the white waters of the Kelani River winds their way through the hill country of inland Sri Lanka before empting into the Indian Ocean. Class 2 and 3 rapids and temperate waters make the Kelani River a premier introduction to the sport of white water rafting or an exciting choice for experienced rafters, with the rafting stretch approximately 6.5km in length, and taking between 45mins to 1.5hrs to complete.

Upon interest, early in the morning, we head to the Horton Plains National park to observe its unique and tempting biodiversity. On the way to Horton, we will enjoy the stopovers at Ambewela New Zealand Farm and the mouthwatering Strawberry Farm. In view of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species, Horton Plains was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage. Its surroundings, forests and the adjoining peak wilderness constitute Sri Lanka‟s most important catchment area of almost all major rivers. Located at an elevation of 2,100–2,300 m and encompasses montane grassland and cloud forest.

Ambewela Farms

Supposing if we go to Horton Plains, we can also have the chance to visit The New Zealand Park. It is a part of the famous Ambewela Farm which are both dairy farms, New Zealand farm is located only 3-4 km away from. It rears pure bred Friesian cows and maintain a pure line of cattle, in order to maintain high quality of milk. The cows are provided with a rich diet and sterilized water. Excellent health care is given on a 24 hrs basis. Once we come close to the visitor site we will be teleported into a remote town of England. Not only do the weather and environment look totally alien to Sri Lanka, but the little English-styled cottages of the staff, meadows covered in important grass and European cows complete this transformation of the landscape into a little English town.

Nuwara Eliya

For the lunch, We head off to Nuwara Eliya the Hill Country Resort. The City is blessed with its salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains & lush green Surroundings. It is the main hill resort of Sri Lanka & the heart of the Famous Ceylon Tea. The town enjoys spring like weather throughout the year. It is also known as “Little England” which was the favorite hill station of British planters who tried to create Nuwara Eliya into a typical English village. The old post office, country house like hill club with its hunting pictures, Gregory Park in the evening, Horse race course remind you of England with many English style Bungalows & many Different Buildings on the hilltops. This is literally a brilliant travel escape for those who miss cold breeze in this Tropical Country & living in a salubrious hermitage. After the Breakfast, Move to Nanu Oya Railway Station to catch our train of Dreams, then we will enjoy our second and the most spectacular Train journey from Nanu-Oya to resort town of Ella. (Approximately 3hr 50min of Train Ride) This is said to be one of the most scenic Train Rides in the world, through lush and verdant valleys, Greenery Tea plantations, Vegetable farms, abandoned forests, grass meadows and many more breathtaking Vistas.

Our destination of Ella is approximately 200 kilometers east of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 1,041 meters (3,415 ft.) above sea level. Walk in the Ella village, it is everyone’s favorite hill country village due to the fact that it‟s a wonderful nature-friendly location. Nine Arch Bridge is a major tourist attraction in Ella, a massive bridge built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel. Ella is a great place for walking and climbing and its most famous trekking route is to “Little Adam’s Peak”. Or in the Evening, we could chill out at the village center where there are lots of restaurants, pubs and also evening entertainments.

Proceed to Bundala (Approx. 1hr 45mins of drive) In the Afternoon, enjoy half day 4x4W Jeep Ride searching for Bird species, Deers, Elephants, and crocodiles patrolling in the lakes. We have finally arrived at the world-famous beachside of Sri Lanka. Natural Moonstone Mine And Gem Palace

Afterwards, continue our drive until Galle and enjoy stopover at famous Moonstone Mine in Ambalangoda to explore the mine where we will learn the exact process of producing these shiny Moonstones after they are being mined and excavated in the Sri Lanka’s largest Moonstone mine. The Moonstones in Sri Lanka are mostly renowned for their slight blue tinge, as the rarest and finest moonstones are almost transparent with a strong blue shine.

Galle Dutch Fort

The vibrant City of Galle that embraces its ancient and colonial past. Particularly it’s known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city firstly founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century and later the Stone sea walls were expanded by the Dutch in the 17th century, and it is by far the best surviving and largest Fort in Asia built by European occupiers. Encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings including the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church, Most picturesque Galle lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip, Natural Harbor, St. Mary’s Cathedral, & recently built National Maritime Museum have brought Galle a spectacular vicinity that attracts a keen traveler. In the afternoon, walk through the streets observing how European architecture mingles with South Asian traditions nowadays flooding cultural enthusiasts on a global scale. Historical Galle Lighthouse stands proudly on the southeast tip of the fort.
