Meet Biffy—an inspiring Edinburgh local—and set off through the streets of the Old Town to learn about the UK women who've made their mark on the Scottish capital. See locations tied to figures like Maggie Dickson and J.K. Rowling, and then explore some of the city's most impactful present-day social projects.

Make your way to the historic Grassmarket in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town to meet your guide in front of Maggie Dickson's Pub, an alehouse named for one of the city's most notorious residents. Hear the tale of Maggie Dickson and her failed execution, and then listen to stories about powerful women like J.K. Rowling—the Harry Potter author who calls the city home—and Elsie Ingles, the doctor and suffragist who founded the Scottish Women's Hospitals.

As you walk past the grand City Chambers, the shops of the Royal Mile, and the historic buildings of Blackfriar's Street, your guide shares her own story and describes her journey from life on the streets to her current livelihood as a passionate tour guide. Deepen your understanding of social projects in Edinburgh with a visit to the Grassmarket Community Project, and wrap up your tour at the Serenity Cafe, the UK's very first addiction recovery cafe.
