What you can expect
In the Sea of Marmara, just below the Asian coast of Istanbul lies an archipelago of nine islands known as Princes' Islands. Most of them are traffic-free and provide a popular escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in Istanbul, being easily reached by ferry.
This tour visits Burgazada and Buyukada islands and begins with a transfer to the ferry terminal for the boat journey to the islands. While cruising along, look out for great views of some of Istanbul's famous sites such as the Topkapi Palace, Leander's Tower and Uskudar on Istanbul's Asian shore.
Buyukada is a popular resort for the locals in the summer with its white sandy beaches and fragrant pine forests, but it was once a place of exile, the most famous resident being Leon Trotsky who stayed for four years. There are several historical places of interest, many of which date from the period when the islands were inhabited by a diverse community of Jews, Muslims and Christians. It is possible to explore the island on foot, by pushbike or in a horse-drawn carriage.
Burgazada is the third largest island famous for its' 4 beautiful hills and has fewer visitors than some of the other islands. A Greek Orthodox Church named after St John towers above the town.
This full-day tour includes hotel pick up and drop off and transfer to the port, a return boat ride to the island of Buyukada and Burgazada with a guided tour, a ride in a horse-drawn carriage and the services of an Arabic speaking guide.
