Description

Explore one of Bonaire's rare sandy beaches, spot herons, iguanas, and flamingos, and admire the view at Lac Bay in Bonaire National Marine Park. Along the way, learn how saltwater is processed into salt crystals and take a refreshing swim.

The mangrove forest of Lac Bay, one of the best preserved mangrove forests in the Caribbean, is home to a variety of wetland birds. Spot wildlife grazing while iguanas and lizards wait for their turn and stop at watering holes to see flamingos and herons leisurely wading through the mangroves.

Once you arrive at Lac Bay, discover one of Bonaire's rare sandy beaches. Fishing huts, empty conch shells, and driftwood lay along the coastline making a great photo opportunity. Relax and take a refreshing dip in some of the world's best protected waters.

Travel back through the national park to Sorobon, Bonaire's most popular beach hangout, for a glimpse of windsurfers pirouetting through the air like ballerinas. Continue along the southern coast past the salt lake which has produced salt since the 19th century and learn how water is processed into salt crystals while you enjoy the view of salt pans and the protected flamingo sanctuary.

Next, see and touch a piece of history at the Slave Huts—shelters for slaves working the salt pans in the 1800s. On the drive back to your hotel, enjoy a breathtaking view of the vibrant colors of the Caribbean Sea contrasting with pink salt pans, snow-white salt mounds, and bright blue skies.
