Description

Learn to make delicious buckwheat noodles, galette or the popular local specialty, gane (deep-fried sweet potatoes) and dine at the Mochinaga Residence, whose history stretches back more than 100 years. Registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property, the historic Mochinaga Residence is a traditional Japanesestyle house that offers the perfect setting for this unique experience. Select your choice of buckwheat noodles, galette or gane. Choose buckwheat noodles and enjoy the springy texture of this perennial favorite that features flour from locally grown buckwheat. Gane is a popular Miyakonojo favorite that features sweet potato deep-fried in a tasty batter, which differs by area and family. In this program you get a chance to cook gane the way the locals have for generations, with buckwheat flour. Galette is a delicious French crepe that’s become quite popular in the area in recent years. It also features buckwheat flour from Miyakonojo. You’ll cook at a wonderful café located in a traditional Japanese-style storehouse and eat at the Mochinaga Residence.
