Mountain Valley Tour
Join our entertaining conductors on a relaxing, informative, and fun-filled day tour as we travel through Wailuku to one of the most sacred spots in Maui. Take a trip back into time as we explore and learn about the deep history of the Hawaiian people, and the Sugar Era which attracted so many different cultures to the Islands in the 1800s. Relax by the river, walk the botanical gardens and nature paths, and take lots of photos!
Iao Valley is known for it’s deep canyons, thick forests, and mild temperatures. Board our Mountain Valley Explorer Tour and be transported 1,500 feet above sea level. There, you will be surrounded by lush, green, rugged mountain and possibly spot the rare Maui goat on the hillside. Our first stop is Maui’s Heritage Park, for a brief walking tour back in time, and spectacular photo opportunities! Then, you will re-board the Trolley and ascend into Iao Valley State Park, an ancient burial ground for the Ali’i (royalty). Once kapu (taboo) to all but Hawaiian royalty, visitors can now marvel at the unforgiving cliffs which house our ancestors’ mana (spirits), believed to live on in their bones. Marvel at Iao needles–standing at 1,200 feet, taller than the Eiffel Tower, it is considered the phallic stone of Kanaloa, god of the ocea
