Templo de San Francisco de Asís
  • 30m
Church originally dedicated to San José, patron saint of the miners, erected at the behest of Friar Miguel Najár, visiting commissioner of the Third Order of St. Francis of Asses, who in 1715 and before the rapid population of the area, requested a plot and corresponding permit for the construction of the temple. The works began in 1721 and seventeen years later the annexed chapel dedicated to San Antonio was built, with the aforementioned work being completed in 1741, when the construction of the tower was completed. Its architecture corresponds to those of the Franciscan missions in northern Mexico, with a large nave shaped like a Latin cross, a single tower and as a particular seal, a majestic dome. The original altar of the apse is hidden by another quarry that was put before it in 1906 and two beautiful altarpieces are embedded at the ends of the cruiser; these belonged to the former Jesuit College called Our Lady of Loreto.
