What you can expect

Visit the Paso de Cortés, the path between the 2 most beautiful volcanoes in Mexico—Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl—and learn the ancient legend of their origin. Afterward, travel to the smallest volcano in the world and venture inside for an unforgettable experience.

Travel to the Paso de Cortés, named for the conqueror Hernán Cortés, after he passed through in 1519 on his way to toppling the Aztec Empire. It offers a spectacular view of both Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, 2 volcanoes that flank the southeastern edge of modern-day Mexico City. Hear the indigenous legend of the volcanoes, a tragic story of a brave warrior falling in love with a beautiful princess. Afterward, take a walk in the forest and discover the many waterfalls formed from Popocateptl's melting snow.

Choose to enjoy lunch in Buena Vista Park, and then continue to see Cuexcomate, the smallest volcano in the world at only 43 feet (13 m) tall. Take stairs to the top and then venture inside, seeing the path molten fluid once took to breach the surface.
