What you can expect
Uncover Taipei's history as you stroll through the Dadaocheng area with a private guide. After a stop at the ancient North Gate, visit the Yongle Market and Xiahai Chenghuang Temple, and then your evening takes you to historic shops in the area before ending at the Ningxia Night Market.
After meeting your guide, start your tour with a walk to the North Gate, which was once part of the ancient city wall built during the Qing dynasty. Admire the gate's exquisite design, which remains unchanged from its original construction, and then continue on to Xiahai Chenghuang Temple. Though home to over 600 statues of Chinese deities, the temple is dedicated to Yue Lao, the matchmaker deity, making it a popular destination for unmarried men and women.
Head next into the heart of Dadaocheng, one of the city's oldest districts. Your guide takes you to the Chuan Hsieh-Fa Historical Lecture Pavilion, which was once the city of Dadaocheng's first grocery store, and then past the Lee Chun-Sheng Church. At a stop at the Wang Tea Shop, which dates back over 100 years, watch experts demonstrate how to create the perfect brew. Your final stop of the day is at the Ningxia Night Market. The oldest of its kind in Taipei, the market is full of tempting stalls hawking uniquely Taiwanese snacks.
