Description

Delve into ancient Cambodian history with a comprehensive look at the Banteay Kdei and Ta Prohm temples in UNESCO-listed Angkor. This private tour introduces you to the architecture, heritage, and culture of the 2 amazing structures.

Get picked up in Siem Reap and drive out to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor. On the way, make a stop at Srah Srang, a 10th-century reservoir also known as the King's Baths. After learning of its construction, walk to the nearby Banteay Kdei, a Buddhist monastic complex built in the 12th and 13th centuries. As you marvel at the Bayon-style architecture, your expert guide explains the history behind the place, from its origins during the Khmer Empire to its intermittent use by monks until the 1960s.

Continue on to Ta Prohm, a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university founded by Khmer King Jayavarman VII. The magnificent temple is still in much the same condition as it was when it was founded in the late 12th century, and is unique for the trees that grow directly out of the ruins themselves. As you explore the site, which was made famous for its use in the movie Tomb Raider, your guide relates stories of its grand past, and shows you the intricate stele commemorating Ta Prohm's founding in 1186 AD. Spend time admiring the beautifully preserved temple before driving back to your Siem Reap hotel.

My guide was a pleasure to get to know. We had a great time at the temples and also sharing with me the history of Cambodia. He was genuinely very informative and I would hang out with him any day. Thank you
