What you can expect
The most colorful and folkloric town in Nicaragua is Masaya. Hand-made wooden, leathered, and cotton products as clothing, shoes, bags, decorations, and souvenirs fill the Masaya Market as well as traditional meals and beverages. Add an ounce of adventure by visiting an active volcano and stand right in front of the lava lake at its crater.
Pick up in at 9 am at your centrally located hotel in Managua or Granada City. The first stop is the National Park Masaya Volcano where at its museum we learn about the history of natives who venerated this volcano, the local flora and fauna, and general vulcanology facts about Nicaragua. Then, in-vehicle, we ascend to the summit of the volcano where for 5 minutes you stand next to the crater admiring the beauty of nature with the lava lake.
Transfer to Masaya Market to meet the locals and see the hand-made products, as well as vegetables, fruits, and traditional meals.
We move to “Catarina” known for its beautiful flowers and pottery selling next to the highway. We visit the viewpoint with a panoramic view of the crater lagoon of Apoyo.
Lunch at your own expense at a Nicaraguan restaurant with traditional meals.
In the afternoon we visit an artisan town “San Juan de Oriente” for a pottery tour where locals explain how pottery making has been transferred from generation to generation. Time to buy beautiful art pieces at local prices.
Transfer back to your hotel.
