Description

Explore Rarotonga from the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle as a private guide takes you on a fascinating historical tour of the island. Stop at important sites from centuries past, and discover the island's rich culture, legends, and heritage from a local.

Your guide picks you up at your hotel and sets a course along the ancient Ara Metua, or “Road of Toi,” which was built in 1050 AD and travels the circumference of the island. Visit a series of centuries-old maraes (ceremonial sites), and see one of the island's oldest limestone churches when you stop at Titikaveka Chuch, built in 1841.

Make your way to Ngatangiia to hear the tale of the Cook Islanders who colonized New Zealand, traveling across the South Pacific in 7 Canoes, and then spend some time among the cultural and historical displays of the National Museum and the Cook Islands Library and Museum. Learn about the Cook Islands' former chiefs, traditional village leaders, and the dynasties that have shaped island society at Pa Ariki's Museum. Your tour concludes over a leisurely lunch of fresh fish, caught by local legend Captain Moko and deliciously prepared by his friendly wife.
