Description

Immerse yourself in the animal kingdom at the 100-acre (40-ha) San Diego Zoo, home to more than 4,000 animals across 800 rare and exotic species. Spend quality time with koalas, New Zealand kiwis, endangered sun bears, and Galápagos tortoises—the zoo’s oldest residents.

At the Polar Bear Plunge, get an up-close underwater view of these iconic Arctic bears as they swim and play. Visit Gorilla Tropics, one of the zoo’s bioclimatic zones, where the sights and sounds of a tropical rainforest closely mimic the African lowland gorilla’s natural habitat.

In Australian Outback, see cuddly koalas, laughing kookaburras and fierce Tasmanian devils. Don't skip Africa Rocks, home to penguins, baboons, leopards, and the mysterious fossa.

If your feet need a rest, board one of the open-air double-decker buses for a 35-minute narrated tour around many of the zoo's best exhibits, take the Kangaroo Bus and hop on and off at 5 different stops, or snag a bird’s-eye view of the entire grounds with a high-flying ride on the Skyfari® Aerial Tram.

Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and exciting animal presentations and shows. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience. Hope to see you soon!

You definitely need to spend 2 days at the zoo. We loved the spacious layouts for most of the animals. Their display of koalas Is the largest outside of Australia. Th African penguins and shark display was awesome. We were impressed at how many different species of apes and monkeys there are, and they have so many of them at the zoo. Also loved the okapi. They have many rescue animals. The overhead skyfari is closed for the next 1 1/2 years while they rebuild the children’s zoo. The only disappointing thing was that due to the the metal fencing around many exhibits It was really difficult to take photographs of the animals. Some of the exhibits did have windows, so it was easier. You have to have a very good camera to focus past the fencing. We had googled if the zoo has wifi but Google was wrong. There is only wifi outside the entrance to the zoo. We really enjoyed our 2 day visit! Glad we prepurchased the tickets though Expedia.ca

We got to see a ton of animals we normally wouldn’t have have seen and during a weekday it wasn’t crowded at all.
