Description

Immerse yourself in the history of New Orleans, from its 18th-century beginnings in the French Quarter to the catastrophic events of Hurricane Katrina. As you travel to see impressive landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and areas hit by the hurricane, celebrate the spirit of the city and its journey to recover after tragedy.

Drive to the neighborhood of Tremé and set off to explore the city's significant sights, both spectacular and somber. As you cruise through the historic streets of the French Quarter, take in colorful colonial buildings, cast iron street lamps, and ornate balconies adorned with ferns. Scope out people partying on Bourbon Street, diners enjoying beignets at Café du Monde, and the St. Louis Cathedral towering over Jackson Square.

Your tour then takes you into the Ninth Ward, one of the area's hardest hit by the hurricane. Here, the heartbreaking effects of the disaster can be still felt, as empty plots and abandoned homes lend a sense of desolation. Loop your way back around past Musician's Village, a community of candy-colored homes that stands as an emblem of resilience. Learn how the neighborhood was built to ensure that low-income musicians who lost their homes to the hurricane had places to live, and that New Orleans wouldn't lose its culture and sound.

Your tour concludes in Garden District. Gaze up at the oak trees hanging over charming St. Charles Avenue, before ending your tour in the Central Business District.

The tour was entirely van-based. I thought we'd get out and explore, but it was a very passive experience. The guide was nice and it would be good for a rainy day or for folks who don't want to walk.
