Description

Discover the spirit of aloha with a Hawaiian luau in a true tropical paradise on east Kauai. Set in the beautiful and sacred Wailua River Valley, this evening treats you to a delicious island-style meal along with a performance that brings Polynesian music and dance to life, complete with a thrilling fire-knife finale.

Make your way to Smith's Garden, an oasis near the Wailua River in an area once reserved for Hawaiian royalty. Here, you're greeted with a beautiful shell lei and given some time to explore the verdant, 30-acre (12-ha) gardens, either on foot or with a narrated tram tour.

Next, follow your nose to the location of the imu ceremony, as members of the Smith family unearth a slow-roasted kalua pig from an underground oven. Lyrical Hawaiian music plays as you head to the bar for a Mai Tai, and continues as you fill your plate with island specialties like lomi lomi salmon, fresh-caught mahi mahi, and beef teriyaki.

After your last bite of decadent tropical dessert, the lights fade, the torches are lit, and rhythmic drums set the stage for a celebration of the song and dance of Polynesia and beyond. Marvel at the skill of graceful hula dancers and the percussive movements of Tahitian drum dancers, admire the colorful dress from around the South Pacific, and prepare to be amazed by the daring precision of Samoan fire knife dancers that bring the even to a thrilling close against the backdrop of an erupting volcano.

We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and it was the same as I remembered when we had our wedding reception there. Good food and good entertainment, such a fun environment for the family and my daughter enjoyed it very much. She especially loved going onstage and learning how to do a Hula dance. We hope we can come again in another 15 years or if we are lucky enough sooner than that.
