Description

Bring the music and magic of The Sound of Music to life as you journey through the hills beyond Salzburg in the footsteps of the von Trapp family. Seek out filming locations in the city and in the scenic Alpine region of Salzkammergut, and hear background stories about the making of the classic movie from a local guide.

An expert guide—working with the same company that transported the film crew for shooting in 1964—introduces you to the intriguing background of the von Trapps as you visit film sites and spots where the family actually lived and spent time. Journey through picturesque Salzburg and the Salzkammergut region, make your way to the Mirabell Gardens, the setting for the “Do-Re-Mi” song, and dance around the gazebo at Hellbrunn Palace, the set of Rolf and Lisel's duet.

The opening scene of the movie comes to life at the historic Nonnberg Abbey and in the enchanting village of St. Gilgen on Wolfgangsee lake. You also pay visits to idyllic Leopoldskorn Palace and the church at Mondsee lake, where the film's wedding scene took place.

This tour did not meet my expectation and standards considering the Sound of Music is a musical classic worthy of respect. The tour advertises it is the “original since 1963”. As such, tour operators should keep up to this standard by setting ground rules that reflect reverence for this legendary musical. I have high respect for this film, for Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, for the children (now in their ageing years) who made the Sound of Music alive, for the songs arranged and composed for this film. It is simply disappointing and sad to have experienced participants of the younger generation who were laughing and giggling as an expression of mockery when the soundtracks were being played on board the bus. I think they were expecting Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber to sing “The Hills are Alive” which is probably not a bad idea. This disrespectful behaviour should not be tolerated as they may dampen the experience of people who choose this tour for nostalgic reasons.

We enjoy the Sound of Musics tour. It is relaxiing. Happy with the video? Even though too old the video, still we can watch. The views extrodinary in Salzburg, Austria.

The tour was amazing!!! Ferdinand and Bridgette were very friendly and fun! Definitely recommended. How I wish Expedia recommended the hallstat and the sound of music tour together. Overall, it was a great tour! It’s so surreal to actually see the places where they filmed the movie👌🏻
