Description

You will hardly find in Colombia a place that takes architectural preservation work as seriously as Villa De Leyva. This population was built by Spanish colonizers in 1572, and it gives the feeling that it remained frozen in time thanks to the way in which it has been preserved as a heritage town.

The tour starts with the pick-up at your hotel at 7:00 am. After a 2,5 hour drive, you will arrive at Ráquira, a colorful village with a long tradition in pottery work. You will have a chance to stretch your legs, have a snack and walk around the village.

Your second stop will be “El infiernito” (the little hell). This pristine archaeological site served as an astronomical observatory to the ancient Muisca culture and exhibits some fascinating cultural treasures. On your way to Villa the Leyva you will also stop at the blue ponds, water reservoirs with a lively blue color that contrasts nicely with the landscape.

After arriving at your cozy hotel in Villa de Leyva at around 2:30 pm, you will have some time to explore the village. Highlights you should visit are the huge town square, the colonial church, and the cobblestone streets surrounding them, lined with the iconic white-washed buildings with rustic wooden doors. There are also many places to go handicraft shopping.

On the second day, you can keep exploring the town or you can partake in a wide range of activities from hiking in natural parks, buggy races and horseback riding to bird watching, or visiting archeological sites and museums. You can solicit the organization of these activities when booking your tour (at your own expense).

At 2 pm, you will be picked you up at the hotel to take you back to Bogotá.
