Ours will be a journey through the main attractions of the historic centre of Naples, a Unesco heritage site since 1995.
Greek, Roman, French, Austrian, Spanish and finally Italian Naples all concentrated in the few square kilometres of the centre, a unique mix of cultures for more than 2,000 years. During our visit we will discuss the history, legends, folklore and monuments of one of Italy's most fascinating cities.
We will start from Piazza Dante where we will admire the 'Convitto Nazionale' designed by the famous architect Vanvitelli and then, entering the historical centre from the 'Port'Alba', we will pass by the oldest pizzeria in the city and then arrive at Piazza Bellini, where the ancient Greek walls of the city of Neapolis are still visible today! We will continue our tour towards via Tribunali, telling about the famous statue of 'Pulcinella' and the so-called 'church of the souls in purgatory', which hides a mysterious crypt. We will then move on to Via San Gregorio Armeno, famous for the nativity scenes made by the local artisans' workshops, and end our tour by visiting one of the most emblematic basilicas of Naples, Santa Chiara, a perfect example of the Gothic style of southern Italy, and the Piazza del Gesu Nuovo, with the impressive façade of the church of the same name built by the Jesuits in the 15th century.
