What you can expect
Venture inland for a day spent visiting the historic townships and natural wonders of Western Australia. This tour takes you on a drive past wide-open farmlands and the spectacular Darling mountain ranges, showing you the famous Wave Rock and the charming streets of York.
You get started early in the morning with a ride toward the sunrise, passing through the townships of Guildford and Midland and some terrific views of the Darling Range. When you reach the town of York, check out its little cottages and brightly colored rose gardens as you step out for a walk along the Avon River and across the famous swinging bridge.
Next, pass by the sprawling farms and large machinery that form the backbone of Western Australia's wheat belt area. Stop to visit the unique Dog Cemetery in Corrigin and learn the vital role of man's best friend in Australia's rural regions, and then travel to Hyden to reach the huge granite cliff of Wave Rock. Get an up-close look at the smooth, streaked curve that looks like an ocean wave turned to stone, still bearing the colorful markings left by receding waters more than 2 million years ago.
Grab a light lunch before you set out for a walk through the natural landscape, visiting sites like the immense rock of Hippo's Yawn Cave, whose shape explains the name. Take a journey through picturesque fruit orchards as you start your return trip to Perth at the end of a scenic day.
