What you can expect
Getting to Yosemite by train and bus is a relaxing experience. On the train you can take a nap, have a snack, walk around and see the countryside through large windows. The seats are wider than those on a bus or in the business class of an airplane. The train ride is three hours and the connecting bus going up to Yosemite takes about two hours. You see miles of almond orchards, vineyards, fruit farms and strawberry trees, small towns that visitors rarely see.
E-tickets for AMTRAK, essential information about the trip and maps are sent to you a day or two ahead. AMTRAK is a vanishing way of travel in America. Not crowded, at times running off schedule as the train tracks are not exclusive for passenger trains.
This is an ideal way of travel if you have booked your own accommodations in Yosemite or El Portal. If you need help making reservations to stay in or near the Yosemite Valley we can help.
You can take this transportation from San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Emeryville and Martinez, round trip or one way. There are two or three departures during the day. You can even continue from Yosemite to Los Angeles.
