Just stayed Last Week at the Hotel Sapphire - Dar Es Salaam (Mtendeni), The Location is great in the city centre with easy access around Dar; we really enjoyed the stay and were looked after by all the staff (especially the Manager Nityanand Upadhyay). The rooms are large, clean with LED TV, Air Con, fridge, microwave, small electric hob and free WIFI that worked everytime!, even the shower was more powerful than my power shower at home. The restaurant food was great with local, Indian and western taste catered for.
We travelled in and out of Dar Es Salaam to Mtwara, Zanzibar and Arusha but our main luggage stayed in the Hotel with no problems even when we left at 4.30am the staff were always helpful, courteous and remembered us after everytime we returned (it made us feel we had come home)
Thank you to all the Staff and Nityanand Upadhyay for making our stay so wonderful :))

We only stayed one night, but wish we'd booked for two nights. The taxi was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport and was also booked for the next day. Small bottle of water in the room, which was just what we needed after our journey.

Very good hotel close to the beach although it's not the best beach ever. The rooms and service is quite good and close to quite nice restaurants/bars checkout for Trinity 5 minutes walking distance and the Slipway Mall has an excellent restaurant/bar called Wavefront.
The gym has very good equipment and serves excellent healthy snacks and drinks.

The hotel is a good for the price. Right by the airport. My wife arrived at the airport at 3am, so was able to walk to pick her up and take a cheap quick taxi ride back to the hotel and sleep for a few hours before catching our flight in the morning. Hotel is part of a small local community.

I was a bit unsure of the hotel do to the mixed nature of the reviews but decided to give it a shot, and what a great surprise! The location is awesome and the staff all smiling and warm ready to assist at anything they can. The food was delicious, their barbecue chicken (reshmi kebab?) and the indian dishes were fantastic. I am a curry lover and the tikka masala was just great! The breakfast was a surprise too as they brought out a local indian bread that is not only great to look at (puffed up like a balloon when it arrives) but went great with the eggs.
The rooms are decent sized, a little bit on the older side, but very comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were average.
Overall, I will definitely return for the location, the staff, the food and the beautiful pool and white sandy beaches.

On my first night, while eating in the hotel restaurant, an unknown thief entered my locked room and stole my laptop computer that I had locked in the wardrobe. He relocked everything on the way out. Another guest who was off the premises at the time had the exact same experience. The fact that a duplicate or master key was involved suggests the complicity of someone on the staff. Police reports were made, but neither stolen item has yet been recovered. The main problem is the locks on the room doors are the cheapest single-action locks available, with very easily duplicated keys. Unless and until the locks are upgraded on all the rooms, please avoid this place! Nothing much to recommend it anyway, rather claustrophobic compund and rooms, usual plumbing problems (no cistern cover or seat on toilet, basin waste pipe leaking etc). Can do very much better elsewhere for the same low price, and nearer to town also (e.g. Akana Lodge)
