"Mexico and Belize- a driving experience!"
I escaped the worst of the UK winter and flew to Cancun, where I took a coach to Merida, the state capital of Yucatan. I loved Merida, a very friendly city with music concerts in the parks most nights. Do yourself a favour and get out of Cancun and see this jewel! I rented a car determined to drive down to Chetumal and cross the border into Belize. Here they speak English, and all Brits can feel at home here! After all, it used to be British Honduras until, what 1981? I was worried about going into Belize City, which has a reputation for being dangerous after dark. It's not nearly as bad as is made out, but it's certainly poor and generally run down. It's benefitting from regular cruise ship visits, and I saw four in the bay on my first stay. The hotel is in the 'tourist' section, across the lane from the more sophisticated Ramada, but I opted for this wonderful Caribbean style hotel.

"Last night in Belize!"
We booked this hotel because it was close to the ocean, walking distance to the water taxis (which can take you to Ambergris Caye as well as a few other places) and and a reasonable distance to the airport. This was our last night before leaving Belize and we wanted to explore the city a bit. I had read that there is an area called "Tourist Village" nearby where the cruise ships stop and I wanted to check it out. If you have a non-Belize passport, I had read on another website that you could enter to shop and dine. We found it but it was closed! Apparently it is only open when the cruise ships are in which is not every day. When we arrived, I was not happy with our room because it faced out to the pool which also has the bar looking over it and we needed an early night's rest. Even though they were booked solid for the night, the front desk staff was extremely professional and understanding and moved us to a quiet room that overlooked the ocean! They were so kind that they even offered to let us look at rooms to see which one suited us best.

"Great Resort"
Great place to stay, the staff was excellent, everyone! it was close to many different adventures. The food was good. The only thing I would do is, add a small refrigerator to the rooms to keep things cold. We really enjoyed Edwin, loved his music, his attitude, and made awesome exotic drinks. thank you for letting us be your guests.

"Wonderful Resort & Staff"
I visited Hopkins with my boyfriend in March 2015. We stayed in the Hummingbird Suite at Almond Beach. Almond Beach and Jaguar Reef are one property as other reviews state. Our room was AMAZING! We had a beautiful view of the ocean, a private veranda with chairs, and a huge room and bathroom. Our room had a full kitchen as a part of it. Although we did no cooking it was wonderful having purified water and glasses always available in our room. The staff at the resort is great. Marianne (guest services manager) took us on a mini tour upon arrival and showed us everything the resort has to offer. The resort does have a 10% resort fee on all food/beverage which goes to tip the staff. This was explained to us by Marianne at the beginning of our stay. There is a line to tip additionally on all your bills. Our servers were always willing to accommodate. The ground keeper were also always willing to climb up and cut coconuts down for me to drink and enjoy. The reason we loved Almond Beach was the amenities. The hotel has two great pools, one with a pool bar. There is a hot tub--this was something that wasn't offered to us at our other hotel in Hopkins. We enjoyed having frozen drinks in the hot tub when it would cool off around 5 during happy hour. The resort also has a sail boat to rent for $25 US for 2 hours. We enjoyed sailing along the Hopkins coast. The food at the hotel is good, but not great--walk a block or 2 and eat at other hotel restaurants for dinner.

"Lovely inn for nature lovers"
After arriving (long drive) we were greeted by a welcoming/friendly employee and given a complimentary hand massage. The bedroom was adorned with flowers scattered on the bed; we loved the sounds of the birds in the morning.
