Hidden gemPosted Sep 19, 2014 on Hotels
Val D'Or was an unexpected surprise. Just minutes from Franshhoek it was in close proximity to the town as well as several wine estates. The ambience of this family run estate was welcoming and restful. Modern amenities and underfloor heating made for a very comfortable overnight. We definitely recommend this as a must do when in the region.

Pleasant but tired; poor attention to cleanlinessPosted May 19, 2014 on Hotels
There for the Literary Festival. Pleasant location outside of Franschhoek. The deluxe room offered courtyard 'views' but this is just a courtyard - no view at all. The king-size bed was two ¾ mattresses put together, one was sagging. Bathroom had no soap and a dirty floor. Overall less than happy, and overpriced for the offering.

Great value for moneyPosted Mar 21, 2014 on Hotels
We stayed for 2 nights and were very pleased with everything. A great place with a lovely garden and pool area. The staff was helpful, friendly and polite. The breakfast was limited but the croissants were great. Suzette made reservations at the restaurant Roca which was a magnificent place to enjoy dinner. Avoid the restaurant Grande Provence as the food does not impress.
