"Bargain, convenient, loud, disconnected."
This is a good hotel for the price. There are a few quick routes from here to the Plaza de las Armas and they are all a delight to walk. There is also a stone stair to a point that overlooks the plaza. Cusco is not a quiet place but this hotel lets all the sound in as though the walls were made of paper. This goes for the chatter of staff at all hours of the day and even into the night. The wireless situation will make you pull your hair out. If you have problems with connectivity ask someone at the desk to reset the router. As a last resort, get connected at a restaurant or cafe nearby. The staff is friendly and helpful and I would definitely consider a future stay.

"Luxury at Machu Picchu's Gate"
We decided to spurge on this leg of a silver anniversary trip and feel that it was definitely worth the expense. The staff were all incredibly solicitous and charming, the hotel's decor is understated and very soothing. The room we booked wasn't large but was very comfortable and well tended to. We chose the full board and enjoyed the level of cooking at the restaurant. Best of all was being able to go in and out of the Machu Picchu citadel, experiencing it in the late afternoon when the crowds thinned out, and first thing in the morning to catch the sunrise at Intipuntu. There are tropically landscaped grounds which include a set of chaise lounges that overlook Huaynapicchu and the surrounding mountains, a breathtaking sight. Champagne tasted even better than usual at that spot. Once again, kudos to the staff. Sanctuary Lodge- location, location, location!

"Excellent Retreat"
Wow! From the moment you enter this property you know you are somewhere special. Instead of checking in at a desk they invite you to relax in front of a beautiful fireplace in a spectacular glass room with cocoa tea as they check you in. The rooms were probably the nicest I have ever been in. Not fussy - clean, interesting, lodge decor. Walk in closet, huge bath, high decorated ceiling (3rd floor), and great towels and linens. The pool was right out of magazine. The food in the restaurant was top notch. My 14 year daughter and my 18 year old son did not want to leave this hotel after the 2 nights we had booked. Thank you!

Hotel Rumi Punku

Calle Choquechaca 339, Cusco - Map
"Very nice, comfortable stay"
Rumi Punku is a very cute hotel, with a responsive and friendly staff, clean, comfortable rooms, and a nice layout with an Inka wall, fountains, and lots of very nice plants. I have no hesitation, whatsoever, in recommending this hotel. My only problem was that the heat turns off later at night and during the day. If you are in your room, it will get cold during the winter. I mentioned this at the front desk and soon after, a second portable heater appeared in the room and it readily solved the problem.

"Culturally interesting hotel near historical plaza"
Stayed here two occasions during recent trip to Peru. Rooms are simple, comfortable, and varied in their layout. One member in our party found room to smell musty on second visit and was given another room which was fine. Three other rooms (one this time and two the first visit) were fine. It did take long time to shower water to warm up in one of the rooms. Common areas (outside courtyard and inside reception, bar, restaurant, and morning breakfast area) all inviting with reflections of local culture. Food good to very good. First visit we walked to the near-by plaza where we observed young people dancing as part of a festival. On return visit there was also dancing in the plaza as part of a different celebration. Local opera singers perform in restaurant on some evenings.

Dinner and breakfast is included! Also comes with welcome drink (pisco sours yea) and optional cooking classes-- felt Expedia didn't outline this enough. Really felt like it was a great value with all of the included features. Also the food is excellent probably the best or second to best in Aguas Calientes. Def request a room with a balcony though.

Taypikala Boutique Machupicchu

Av. Pachacutec #808, Machu Picchu - Map
"Close to the departure bus to Machu Picchu"
Time Period: April 23, 2015 to April 25, 2005 -- Rating: The Taypikala is rated at 4-stars. Our assessment is that it is the hotel met 3-stars easily, because of its centric location. We feel the 4-star rating was achieved because of the closeness to the central plaza, WiFi, Refrigerator, and Safe. Breakfast was included, which was a nice variety of hot and cold items. Aguas Caliente is very remote and 4-stars there would likely be 3-stars in Lima. The hotel has an elevator which was just installed about 8-months earlier. Location: The hotel is situated very close, about 7 minutes, from the center of the town. There are Convenience Stores to buy water, etc. Aquas Calientes is about 2,000 feet lower than Cusco, so altitude was less of a factor. Restaurant and Bar: The hotel offered a nice buffet breakfast in its restaurant on the ground floor. The selection was a variety of hot and cold items such as eggs, pastry, cold cuts, cereal, sausage, and coffee or tea. There is a bar next to the restaurant on the 1st floor. The hotel also offered its local Tea to help with the altitude adjustment, and a complimentary Pisco Sour. Staff: The staff was friendly and helpful. We want to recognize Samuel at the Front Desk, Emelio at the bar/restaurant, and Waldir who brought our baggage back and forth to the train. Rooms: The rooms were adequate size. There was only one lock on the room door with no safety latch.
