    Pocket Guide: Tonga

Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Tonga is a country that is comprised of 176 islands. Over 50 of these islands are inhabited by people with a rich culture and a deep heritage. If you're thinking about booking one of the many rooms available at Tonga hotels, you'll have much to see and do when you arrive. Here are a few things you need to know about Tonga.

    When to Visit

The weather in Tonga doesn't fluctuate that much, as it is almost always warm or hot, and humid. However, during the dry season from about May through October, it's a little less humid and a little bit cooler than the rest of the year. Because of this, the majority of the festivals in Tonga and the majority of travel there occur during this time.

    What to See and Do

Once you book one of the many Tonga Hotel packages available, it's time to figure out exactly what you are going to do when you get there. Many cheap hotel deals in Tonga will actually include guided tours to some of the more popular attractions in the area. For example, some Tonga hotel deals include a tour of the Ha'amonga'a Maui. This is a large stone structure made of three very heavy pieces of limestone. Each one weighs about 30 to 40 tons, which makes its construction in the 13th century that much more significant.

Some hotels in Tonga will provide you with a tour to Hufangalupe. This is a natural-land bridge structure on the main island of Tongatapu. It is situated near the ocean and is a favorite photograph opportunity for many travelers.

The 'Ene'io Botanical Garden is another special place that many people come to. Those who enjoy getting back to nature will appreciate all of the flora that adorns this area.

    Booking Your Trip

You can find a cheap Tonga hotel deal by simply looking at different options and considering different times. If you come during the off-peak season, you may be able to get special rates or a major discount. Regardless of when you book your reservations in Tonga, you'll be able to enjoy the welcoming locals and the many attractions in the area. Tonga is consistently rated as one of the top destinations in the South Pacific. When you decide the best time to go and you find the best prices, it's time to start looking forward to your trip.

    "The best shower in Polynesia!"
I was having a short break in Tonga (3 nights) and have stayed at the Seaview Lodge. My room, 302, was in the annex and was very well appointed, had a good selection of mini-bar items (although, this isn't something I use), an in-room safe, very comfortable bed, tasteful decor, wi-fi, and a TV with 20 channels (including two for sport). The shower room was clean and damp free, which is quite an achievement in the South Pacific, with fresh towels daily. The shower (whether you wanted hot, warm or cold), was very powerful and quite invigorating - again, somewhat of a rare find in these parts. Breakfast is served daily in the restaurant, which is also open every night, except Saturday and it serves the best food on the Island. My Hosts, Franz and Gudrun made me feel very welcome, as did the local staff servicing the rooms and waiting in the restaurant. Airport transfers are conveniently arranged and are charged to you bill, with no nasty surcharge. My three days at the Seaview were relaxing and it could be described as a home away from home. I look forward to going back again.

    "Black Pearl Suites were sweet"
Keeping in mind that this hotel is in Tonga, which is not a negative, but different to many other places: It was relatively expensive compared to most other places in Nuku'alofa and a 3 km walk from town, but with a pleasant view. The hotel has a real Tongan feel and the dining room is really something to see. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and polite. There was no hot water on either of the nights we stayed, but this is not unusual in Tonga and didn't spoil our stay. We ate there three times. Once for dinner when we had delicious and huge serves of swordfish and twice for continental breakfast which was included and very nice.

Lots to do, staff were great, meals nice. The only thing was the servicing of the rooms needed to be kept up to the same standard as when we arrived. Overall a great time was had by all.
