Terrible experience

We only stayed for one night - but the air conditionor was leaking. We ran out of towels to deal with the situation, so notified the hotel staff around midnight. She said she cannot change rooms for us, and brought only two more towels. We had a sleepless night turning the air conditionor on and off - makes a dripping noise when it is on, and too hot when it is off. We complained about it the next morning and all we got was an "ok". We did not even get a simple apology. The hotel is overall in poor condition. It is old and stinky, with a terrible breakfast. The only good thing is the location is not bad. We have had much better experiences paying the same price for other hotels in Portugal. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Do not come close to ranking it a 5 star hotel

Guests have to hand carry their luggage up 29 steps to get to reception -" no elevator except for handicapped." When we got to our room, hot and tired after a full day (the weather was in the mid 80's), the ceiling fan, the air conditioner, and the refrigerator were not working. I made 3 trips to the desk to get things fixed or get another room and was curtly told to open our window. When we did, a number of flies came in and the sound of a jackhammer in the courtyard below was very loud. Staff kept insisting the AC was working and I climbed on the bed and felt the vent to show them it was not. They finally admitted it had not yet been turned on for the season (the filters were clogged and filthy). After an hour a workman turned on the AC, but the fan and refrigerator were never fixed for the 2 nights we were there. No effort was made to adjust the bill or apologize. We would rank it a one or two star hotel at best. The only good thing was a location near a number of the sights.

Wrongly rated hotel / b&b

We were very disappointed!... This hotel is a TWO star b&b not a five star hotel as advertised by the www.hotels.com website. The entrance from the road looks opulent and the reception staff are friendly and greet you with grace. The rooms are cleaned. The room facilities are of a two star rated hotel, the same goes for the breakfast. We suggest to other visitors to have their coffee breakfast in one of the nearby coffee shops. We expected and five star service and paid excessively for a two star B&B. This website lost my future custom.

Tired, surly staff, no parking, poor breakfast

Arrived, and no parking - not or problem response from reception. Breakfast staff were miserale faced, and very poor quality breakfast. Place felt tired - not old and quaint - but tired. 2 or 3 star only.

There are many superlatives you can write about Evora, and they are all worth it - what a magnificent location! Albergaria Solar de Monfalim is so charming, it's been a hotel for 130 years - so it's not new! It's well maintained and has charm by the bucket load. You can park right outside the hotels - the streets are NARROW! So if you're even slightly worried about driving in narrow windy streets just park outside and walk to the hotel it's not far.
