Good hotel close to seafront promanade

Posted Mar 8, 2014
Pros: Not too big and impersonal friendly atmosphere
Cons: refurbish some of the fittings especially in the bathroom.
We were slightly apprehensive before our visit on reading some of the previous reviews but we had a great time staying at the Windsor last week. I can see however how the hotel may not meet up to the standards of those with the highest expectations in terms of luxury and d├ęcor but we found it to possess a certain charm. Some of the fixtures and fittings, especially in the bathroom, have seen better days but I wouldn't quibble about that considering the price of our stay. We found the standards of service and cleanliness to be excellent, the staff were all friendly and efficient and our room was made up and cleaned every day. The food was good, buffet style both at breakfast and evening meal, perhaps not haute cuisine but varied and very good value.

Pros: Friendly accommodating staff
Cons: Better furniture, shower and facilities in bedroom. Better standard of breakfast.
Location: Eat most days at the Surfside restaurant but plenty of good cafe's and restaurants nearby.
I used the Hotel as I was visiting the island for sporting reasons. It was very basic, breakfast not brilliant although I was told by other guests that dinner was good. Staff very friendly and helpful, room again basic. Swimming pool and terrace pleasant but I would not take my family there.

Good central location but facilities not great

Posted Oct 17, 2013
Positives location is very central and breakfast was good. Negatives very noises and windows are not double glazed, the decor could do with refurbishment. Minibar is empty and no room service. Television could be updated. Overall got the feeling it was clean but still creeped out by the shabby decor. Not FOUR star.

Better than expected.

Pros: Good price, clean and comfortable bedrooms. Good location.
Cons: Staff attitude.
Location: Can get buses all over Malta or walk to Sliema harbour and get ferry over to Valletta or other places. Comino makes a pleasant day trip.
We booked a secret hotel in Sliema, Malta, and when we were given the Windsor, we looked on reviews and was disappointed. However we found the hotel was OK, it was a good location, rooms were clean and quiet. We did have to wait over an hour to get into our room, despite arriving at the allocated time and were given a twin instead of a double, staff were very slow at sorting that out. The rooftop pool was quite small but OK to cool off with enough sun beds to go around. Did not find any English language programmes on the TV. Almost everything cost extra, including a safe deposit box, or pool towels, or tea making facilities, but don't mind that as the basic price was very reasonable.

Old hotel not taken care of

Posted Oct 7, 2013
We had pre-booked the Windsor for 2 nights and it was not a pleasant stay. We were in the run down part, the walls were dirty and there was mould on the walls, the shower was all yellow and dirty. There were massive stains on the mattress and the sheets were not super clean either. To top it all we had a massive coackroach in our bedroom so if you can avoid the hotel do so. Also the swimming pool was closed for some urgent maintenance when we were there.

A week without a good night's sleep

Posted Sep 8, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: Invest in some proper beds so guests get a good night sleep. Coffee machines in the room would make a huge difference.
Location: Very close to lots of nice places to swim in the sea, easy access to everywhere by bus and walking distance to both Sliema and St Julians
The building work described as being in the area, is actually the building next door. As I was given a room on that side of the hotel I was woken each morning, including Saturday, by noises that sounded as if someone was drilling into the wall by my head. One day this noise started at 6.45. So while the room did have a balcony, the balcony was covered in building dust, and while housekeeping came in a made the beds and mopped the floor in the room, there was no attempt at cleaning the balcony so that that it could be used. While I accept this is not the fault of the hotel, the poor quality of the beds is. Travelling on my own I had a twin room, but the bed I slept in was so uncomfortable that I switched beds half way through the week to see if the other bed was any better, it wasn't. Also not impressed with the lack of coffee facilities in the room. For what I paid, I would not complain about the cracked tiles in the bathroom or the pools the size of a postage stamp, but I have paid less to stay in much nicer hotels.

Dear Eve, Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at The Windsor Hotel. It is unfortunate that there is building work around the hotel but as you rightly state this is advertised to all our prospective guests. Please rest assured that the balconies in all rooms are cleaned on a daily basis but the dust created by Malta's dry climate and the building works do not help in keeping the balconies free of dust. It is disappointing that you found the beds in your room uncomfortable. It is impossible for the hotel to have different mattresses for guests' different preferences. Hotel facilities advertised do not include tea/coffee making facilities in standard rooms. These are available in superior rooms and at an additional charge in standard rooms. Both the indoor and outdoor pools are advertised as roof top pools and considering that the hotel is situated in a residential area the pools are bid enough for clients to refresh themselves. Kind regards The Management

Location good, but I would difinately not stay in.

Posted Sep 2, 2013
Pros: The location is good
Cons: Things in hotel needs to be working. In a 4* hotel I expect phone lines to be working, wifi to be working etc.
Location: Walk straight beach is 50 yards away, walk 10 minutes to the left for clubs and night life. Walk 10 minutes to right for shopping mall.
Internet/wifi not working, gym was out of order, phones in room not working. I was due to stay for 4 nights in the hotel, after my second night I was asked not to have a shower or bath because the water was leaking. I asked for a room change as this was not feasible- I was in a hot country and I was going to be going in the sea!!! On third night I slept in a different room. At about 3 am some guy opened our room. I tried to phone reception, but the phone line was not working. The staff were pleasant but they all seemed powerless. I got the impression every decision needed to go through a manager who was not always in the hotel.

Dear Dee, It is unfortunate that you found a number of things that did not meet your expectations. Although the free wifi in the reception/lobby was not available due to technical problems, wifi vouchers were available at reception to be used all over the hotel. Thank you for your kind comments regarding our helpful staff. Kind regards The Management

Good location

Posted Aug 30, 2013
Pros: The room and how well it was cleaned
Cons: Working wifi at all times and not just I'm the lobby Better working lifts Better selection of channels on tv for all guests
Location: Near to Sliema seafront and boat trips including the Sliema to Valletta ferry.
Didn't think it was worth the 4* rating, I've stayed in many 4* hotels on Malta and this doesn't come close in comparison. Wifi was broken the entire week of my stay which thesedays is pretty unacceptable I think. Every day I asked if it was working and everyday I got told it was still broken. No apology was given. The tv in my room had 3 channels tuned in, French, Italian and German, no English or Maltese, the remote didn't work but didn't bother telling reception, in my opinion these things should be checked before hand. It's little things like this that make a difference The lifts were beyond shocking. Slow, shaky and old. The hall way carpets looked a little grim too. The photos on the website aren't true to life. My room on the other hand was lovely and spacious with a brand new bathroom which were both spotlessly cleaned everyday which more than made up for the rest but I wouldn't choose this hotel again sadly.

Dear Danielle, Thank you for taking the time to comment regarding your recent stay at The Windsor Hotel. Unfortunately, the free WIFI at the reception/Lobby was not working due to technical problems but vouchers were available at Reception for clients to purchase. these could be used to gain access to the internet throughout the hotel. We thank you for your comments regarding the high standard for cleanliness in your bathroom. These comments will be passed onto the staff concerned. We hope to see you again at The Windsor Hotel. Next year should be good

Unfortunately there were renovations undergo on the hotel and a neighbouring building. Air conditioning wasn't working which made our stay uncomfortable. Otherwise the price and position was good.

Dear Debbie, Thank you for taking the time to comment on your visit to The Windsor Hotel. The hotel was refurbishing and upgrading the 5th floor and unfortunately the building works taking place around the hotel makes it hard for our room attendants to keep the hotel spotless but we hope that the building works around the hotel will come to an end eventually. We hope you will choose to stay at The Windsor Hotel the next time you visit Malta. Kind regards The Management
