We were looking for a hotel that would be convenient to Cremona, but not in the city. We decided to stay at Hotel Gambara. It was a terrific decision. Gambara is approximately 30 minutes northeast of Cremona. Mariuccia, the proprietor of the hotel, is an elegant, funny, and welcoming host. Even if the hotel itself had not been a pleasure, the stay would have been worth it just to meet her. I suppose one could say that the hotel is a little past its prime, but that would miss the point. This is an authentic experience, in a convenient jumping-off point to a city well worth visiting – Cremona (which has a fantastic new violin museum). The hotel, which is very comfortable, also has easy access to a wonderful restaurant just down the road called the Stella. The food was excellent and the staff could not have been nicer. We were very glad that we stopped in this wonderful little hotel.

Simple farm accommodations, well-manicured, in a lovely setting. The local food experience was superb, and our hosts very considerate, gracious and accommodating. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a relaxing experience without the commercial hub-bub.

This is the second time we have stayed at Residenza La Villa, as on our last visit the service was very good, the owners are very helpful and made us very welcome. The breakfasts as usual were incredible and not to be missed. Mantova is a good base for the North of Italy without the expense of more well known cities. We highly recommend Residenza La Villa and will be staying again.

I was exploring small Italian cities--towns. I was told Montova, which was a little of the beaten path, was worth visiting and it was, certainly for two days. This hotel is a little hidden but very private, quiet and wonderful in its own way yet close to everything.

It was very nice to meet the owner that received us when we arrived. Have a nice furniture and in the kitchen they offer a place to where you can cook. With the cold weather I had the time o prepare some home made dinner with a fresh pasta. It was the best location in town, walking distance to the historical town, nice restaurants, shops, interesting way they manage the city life. For lunch they close the shops but the shopping time is after 6:00 PM and weekends. On Thursday Mantova on the all historical town have a Flee market very good with everything that you not even imagine.
It is better to go to Mantova between April to October. November it is to cold to go to Europe. It is the oldest city in Italy. Cristina the owner help me a lot with the maps and information where to go an what to do in town.
