San Antonio, Texas Hotel Rooms at the Independent

I am so glad I looked at the reviews in chronological order! The ones from a year or so ago were a little scary, but it is obvious that the hotel has undergone a transformation. Is it older? Yes. Is the neighborhood not typical of a hotel? Yes. Is the staff fabulous, and efficient, and polite? Absolutely! We were greeted by the owner (I assume) and when he found out we were there for a graduation from Lackland AFB, besides my hotel paperwork, he handed me a schedule of the weekend's events,and a set of directions not only to the base, but to local places you always seem to need when out of town, like the closest Wal-Mart and Walgreen's. At the bottom of that sheet was the offer that if they didn't currently have the directions for some place I needed to go (and the lobby had an extensive collection of tourist brochures) they would be happy to print directions for me. We had a family room (with a kitchenette) and they even did the dishes for us, which has NEVER happened before!

Beautiful room, Spanish decor, wood window louvres open onto tropical foliage. Breakfast on the patio overlooking the river delicious. A knowledgeable , attentive, thoughtful staff. I loved this hotel!

We stayed at the Hotel Alsace for 4 nights and had the most amazing experience! Every single staff member seemed to go above and beyond to keep us happy from the desk clerks to the maids to the groundsmen. We would absolutely love to spend another weekend/trip here. The ONLY downside was that the breakfast has no protein, just carbs. But overall, great stay!

Overall, this was a wonderful stay. The location was great as it is right by the Riverwalk. The hotel was clean and modern. The only thing missing from the hotel is a swimming pool.

Some reviews were accurate about the hotel rooms being smaller than the large hotel chains but it was perfect for my daughter and I. The pool was rather small but a pool is just a pool to a kid so it was fine. Continental breakfast was super! Decor and atmosphere were historical and exactly what I wanted. Highly recommend this hotel!

I recently stayed at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. The hotel is old, decorated beautifully, filled with history, yet the accommodations are updated and comfortable. There are several nice little shops, a lovely outdoor pool, pretty garden, fun bar, and restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer a dinner and ghost tour that sounded entertaining. I would like to attend this dinner on my next trip. The hotel is located right near the River Walk. I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. It was great! I plan to visit San Antonio again in May and stay at the Menger again. I highly recommend this hotel to vacationers!

Nice quiet country club with country atmosphere. Great restaurant. Breakfast was wonderful and surprisingly reasonable.

When we arrived the hotel office was under construction and the exterior was being repainted. The room was clean & comfortable , it was close to the river walk We enjoyed the stay!
