If we ever go back to San Jose, CR, we’ll stay in the same hotel.
Touring San Jose by bus or on foot, Gran Hotel Costa Rica is right in the middle of most points of interest.... churches, museum, theaters, banks, shopping venues, casinos, etc. Most of all, this hotel is staffed with very nice and courteous employees. A home away from home.
Went to San Jose in October which they said is the low season which is why there was not too many tourists we were told.

No Hot Water
my bother and I were very disappointed - no hot water - other guests also checked out due to the lack of hot water. the hotel refused to refund us for nights not used even though they are very aware of the problem

Plenty of Character
I had a three night stay in one of the rooms facing the neighboring public square. Yes, the room was a little small, and the bed incredibly stiff, but it was great being so close to the action - the square provided a great place for people watching and enjoying live music, vendors and bird feeding (who knew that anyone liked pigeons that much.) If you’re looking for a luxurious vacation retreat, this won’t be for you, but it does get you in the middle of day to day San Jose life.
