Hi Susan, It was lovely meeting you all and being able to host your family at our ''266, Hearts of the Valleys'' Cottage. Our cottage has the attributes of an old Welsh Cottage, which is why we try and retain the original stone staircase as a feature {not in use anymore of course} and some of the original stone walls and beamed ceilings, therefore it would defeat the object to try and give it a modern look standard. Perhaps you may not be aware of Hotel history in providing New Testaments/Bibles to accommodation providers? The first bibles were provided in hotels in 1908 by the Gideons and this tradition is kept up in most good hotels to this day. We are sorry if our providing of New Testaments for our guests offended you, there was certainly no intention of offence being caused. We find this provision to be good practice and many of our guests are grateful of the reading material, which includes many different types of books., and the children love all the little books on the lower shelf, some of which are stories about Jesus. All the books are kept in a small square glass cabinet and it's totally our guest’s choice whether to open the door and take one out or to leave the cabinet door closed. I'm so sorry you were disappointed in our kitchen. When we welcome guests we do assure everyone we only live 10 minutes up the road., and to let us know if there's anything amiss - as you didn’t notify us of any issues, we were unable to do anything to help you. {Also our housekeeping lady is always on hand should there be any needs.} I do purposefully check the fridge when I put in the Guests milk, also the freezer to ensure nothing is left in there. As always when I checked I was fully satisfied with the hygiene and cleanliness of the unit. The only items I leave in there are the blue freezer packs which are provided for our guests to use for outside picnics. We provide a ‘Valida’ mop spray unit which is always kept fully loaded at the side of the fridge/freezer with the ironing stand and brush etc., so I'm sorry you felt the need to go out and buy a mop and bucket. I do hope this didn't spoil the enjoyment of your holiday. Our last guest review, which was just before your stay said: ‘’The house was immaculate’’ Lots of our guest’s reviews comment on exceptionally high standard of cleanliness. Our cottage’s cleanliness and the well-being of our guests and their enjoyment of our cottage is of paramount importance to us, we do hope this won't deter you from visiting our lovely land of Wales again. I entirely agree with you, due to the Covid situation many tourist attractions are now needing booking in advance, thankfully you worked out your itinerary in advance and managed to get in to most of where your plan was. Thankfully tourism is vastly and quickly expanding in and around our arrea so there's never too far to go to get to somewhere exciting. Don't know if you managed to get into the new Zip World.
