Upon arrival around 5 pm 7/14/2021 for our five day stay at the Briar Creek Cabin, everything was as it was represented in the listing. First impressions were good, although the cabin was a little dated, but no big deal, it’s a cabin. We unpacked everything and went to explore the area and to find some dinner around 6:30pm. We arrived back at the cabin around 8pm and proceeded to shower and to watch some tv before getting ready for bed.
As we started getting ready for bed, we began to see roaches in the bedroom. Not wood roaches or water bugs, but nasty German roaches. One alive on the night stand, two climbing the walls behind the bed, and one or two in the closet and three or four dead ones. My wife is deathly afraid of roaches, so we were out of there. Before leaving at 11:30 pm, my wife texted the listed number on VRBO, but have yet to receive a response.
I reached out to “customer service” the next day and explained our situation and wanted to see about some sort of refund. I was willing to pay for one night and the required cleaning fee but because we had to come out of pocket again for other lodging for the remainder of our stay, I thought it was fair to be reimbursed. We were told “ we could have done something if we would have been told before y’all left” (refer back to the text earlier explaining our situation). Then we were told that the property owner walked through the cabin and didn’t see anything other than dead ones. Then we were told that the pest control company came out and inspected but didn’t see any roaches or evidence of roaches.
It became apparent to me after three separate phone conversations and one unanswered text message that Kiamichi Cabins are not willing to treat their customers right, so I wanted to get the word out to hopefully prevent someone else from having to endure the same thing.
The rest of the trip was fine but we will never stay with Kiamichi Cabins again.
