My wife and I had to cancel our European trip Friday, August 9 at the urgent request of her cardiologist who had reviewed the results of test taken during the week including an echocardiogram indicating she was having difficulty with a ventricle, a valve, and a thorasic aneurysim. After contacting Backroad to cancel the river portion of our trip I called Travelocity. I spoke with a representative who supposedly interceded with United airlines to allow us to use all but $300 per person on a subsequent trip provided it was booked by January. I also asked that he cancel any hotel bookings we had Travelocity for now. Getting your current message makes me wonder if everything he helped me with was bogus.

Location, location, location! I got half of the mandatory Budapest attractions done within 3hrs after checking in. Giant room with a view looking directly at the church. Mostly friendly staff with 1 rude breakfast room lady complaining that I didn't close the door after entry. Guess what, there's no sign saying to close the door behind. 2ndly, I didn't spend money to get yelled at, even if it was in a language I don't understand.

Wonderful location however it’s a little further than the 15 minutes walk from the central train station- including lots of steps! Breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great location, beautiful view from our rooms, nice breakfast, only the coffe maker did not work. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. It's quite noisy from early morning but I still highly recommend this place. If you want to sleep until late this hotel is not for you because the Matthias Church is in front of it and the bells might wake you up and the loud tourists as well. There are some buses from there to the city center so you don't need to climb up and down on the stairs. If you drive parking can be a headache.

Just outside the castle. Transport to hotel is fine. Just need to change a bus but convenient enough. Room is good and reception is happy to provide hot water for daily use from them. Bed is great and clean. May need to slowly upgrade their in room carpeting. Value stay with such great location and good room. Aircon is on service and a bit dissappointed about it. I like my room teklmp 20 to 25°C. 😊

Perfect location; wasted potential to improve
The hotel has one of the best locations in the city, and very helpful staff, but no effort has been made to improve the facilities and decor which are noticeably tired, and lacking in many areas. The lights in the corridors did not all work and are nothing was done to fix them the full 5 days of our stay. The mattresses are hard; the sheets do not quite fit the beds; the duvets are old and lumpy; only one very flat pillow is provided; no tea or coffee making facilities in the room; shower head would not remain up. These are all areas that house-keeping and maintenance could attend to quickly and with minimal major expense, but there appeared to be no motivation to improve the quality of the building, which is such a shame as it has such huge potential.

It's just a bit dated and pretty no-frills -- no coffee-making facilities in the room, liquid soap+shampoo dispenser, etc -- but this place is absolutely fantastic for the price. Staff v helpful, great location if you want to stay in the castle district. Aim for one of the dormer rooms on the piazza side (I stayed in 238); stunning views of the church across the way, vaulted ceiling. Breakfast was standard continental fare; I skipped the hot options.

BUG Motel
BUG Motel !!! Not BURG Hotel!!!! 3rd bed full of bed bugs! Pillows thin as pancakes! TV is a micro compute screen!!! Worst then a hostel!!! Should close down! Not suited for the area at all!!!

Dear Sir! We are very sorry about your feelings after staying in our Hotel, but allow us to let you know our side of the happenings. During your stay, you mentioned to the chambermaids, that you think there are biting creatures in the extra-bed, so they provided a new matrace , and searched the room for the mentioned pests. Despite that they have not found anything, we have called the pest-control firm, to check the room, and carry out an immediate extra process. Despite the fact, that they haven't found anything either, they have carried out the process again. We certainly have regular processes 4 times a year in every single room to avoid inconvienient situations like this one. As you may see, we do our best, to keep pests out of the Hotel, so we really truly are sorry about what you have experienced. I hope that you will accept this apology, and i hereby promise you that if you return one day, and contact us directly, we will do our best, to compensate you. Nice Budget Hotel - Great Location
Excelllent location, the hotel is next to the historic Matthias Church (Matyas Templom) and Fisherman's Bastion, which is like your private terraces, and from there you can have a good view of the Danube River and the city. No one can beat this hotel in terms of location. Castle Hill district is very beautiful, Budapest Castle is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The best time to walk around the area is early mornings before all the tourists groups come. Enjoyed the fresh air outside the hotel. At nights, it's so nice to walk around just outside the hotel and enjoy the views of the Parliament House, the Danube river as well as Matthias Church which is lighted at nights. Shops, cafe and convenience stores are just iutside the hotel. Trust me, you will enjoy Castle Hill more than any area in Budapest. Thanks to Thomas at the front desk for being so helpful with a smile.

Excellent location for this hotel very comfortable
We were very pleased for choosing this hotel ,impressive views nearby,we liked the historic objectives so close to it,the idea of the majestic pedestrians area,everything about this 3 star hotel was very good.The price also was very good,actually we had an apartment,our stay here was memorable so for tourists visiting Budapest this hotel is an excellent option(free parking too).It is a real pleasure to walk nearby,green spaces all around,old trees and shrubs.It is an area crowded with tourists.

Great location overlooking Matthias church
Very well positioned for the major attractions of the castle area of Buda. Great views just a walk away and an array of bars and restaurants, especially on the quieter walk towards the military museum. The hotel needs to install a lift and the rooms need renovation, but great value for its position.

Great hotel in the best part of Budapest. Reception staff amazing, far more helpful than the girl working in the Tourist Information Centre. Shame bars not open later in the evening, everything closed by 10pm.

The excellent location and excellent helpful staff may counterbalance this budget hotel's desperate need of refurbishing. The carpets (beyond the lobby) are badly stained and worn in the corridors as well as the 3 rooms we experienced during our 4-day stay. The walls are dingy. Rooms on top floor (up 4 flights of stairs) are musty - be aware that most of the double rooms on this floor, with no elevator,and the last set of stairs up steep with no railing. The breakfast was satisfactory, but the one friendly server had trouble keeping the serving dishes replenished for the volume of guests all eating at once.

Fabulous location, rude staff
Would have been a 5 star rating if not for the extremely rude staff. We were very nice, and had questions, and the staff were short and irritated each time. They charged us another 80 dollars on site because of having a second person, as if we didn't book for 2 people originally. Staff would not help us get a taxi, and were just always mean and not nice. Too bad, because the hotel was in a great spot, and kept up nicely.

Dear Guest, (sorry, but you did not leave a name so that i could answer properly) I am very sorry that your experience in our Hotel was so negative. At the same time i would like to ask you to contact us directly so that we can investigate your case, as your accusations are very serious. It happens time after time, that our guests book something else than they needed (a single room for 2 persons for instead), and in cases like that, the price must change, i hope you understand this. As for the taxi arrengement, we work together with 3 of the bigger official taxi companies of Budapest. It is our interest as well, to call a taxi, so i can not see how and why anyone at the reception would not have called a taxi for you. As for my colleagues rude behaviour, i have never experienced anything like that from anyone working here, so as i said at the beginning, we would like to take a closer look into your case, so please contact us. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Hotel seems a bit dated in decor but it is very clean. Only downside would be lack of plug sockets in room for charging everything at end of day and also no coffee / tea making facilities in room. Breakfast good and plentiful. Overall great hotel with fantastic location.

Perfect location and simply perfect place
Burg hotel is a lovely place, appearing old fashioned, it was basic yet very comfortable. The overwhelmingly good thing was the location and at the price it was, I would definitely recommend it further. The breakfast was varied (though few cooked items) and was well organised.

Location cannot be beat
The location of this hotel cannot be beat; it's within the walled city, near the palace and across the square from St. Matthais Church. We walked to the nearby Turkish bath house and to the chain bridge. Everything is close by.

The locationis one of the best you will find in Budapest.Our room was spacious and we looked our at the beautiful Matthias church.It was spotlessy clean .The breakfast is very good with a good choice of options.From tne outside it looks a bit run down but the foyer is well furnished and has comfortable seati g. I would choose this hotel again. It is not modern, including slow Wifi and a less than optimal breakfast. However, the location is beyond 5 stars if you are looking for a refuge in the business of Budapest. The hotel is literally 10 steps away from the Fisherman's Bastion with the most beautiful views of the famous parliament building in Pest.

Breakfasts were great with both hot and cold options. Front desk staff seemed a bit distant at first and then I found them to be extremely helpful with excellent guidance on transport and general tourist matters. Burg Hotel is in a great location and added to a great holiday for me.
