We did not notice it when the lights were on, but when lights were off, it is was bright and annoying, to the point of effecting our sleep. We thought we were unlucky to have a bad unit that needed replacement. When we reported it to the front desk, the response was "oh, all of our smoke detector's do that!" Wow.
