An employee working the desk on 2/17/24 in the evening had a problem with a combination of an expired drivers license, and state issued laminate paper renewal ID that the DMV gave me while writing for my actual ID card in the mail. This temporary ID had an updated picture, as it’s the picture from the new ID, clearly states that it is valid ID until it expires, and matched the old expired ID in every way. She called a manager, and they together decided that this was not good enough ID for them, and that they wouldn’t give me the room that i reserved and paid for in advance. This was after 10pm on Saturday night. I overheard a conversation on the phone between them, before the manager came in person discussing the number of nights i was there and what my rate was. I also overheard that they were completely booked up that night. I’m curious why, if the problem was the validity of my ID, my rate and length of stay was privately discussed between them first. Did they plan to turn me away and rent the room for more? I had to speak with them for some time, showing them exactly on the ID where it said it was valid ID, and explaining what an unprofessional decision turning me away under these conditions would be. They told me to “find a friend” in town I had just traveled to, or find another hotel. I sat down to try to figure this out, and they went into a back room. About 5 minutes later they came out and said they’d “help me out” and let me stay there. Very unprofessional.
