Great LocationPosted Mar 16, 2018
We attended a conference directly across the street at the Convention Center. This hotel was half the price of the Marriott, just as convenient and very comfortable.

Pros: It as within walking distance of Jack London Square. The hotel price was reasonable. The bed was comfortable.
Cons: The staff's approach to customers could be more energetic and helpful. The free breakfast was mediocre.
Location: The hotel is across the street from the Oakland Convention Center. There are homeless people around, and it was noisy at night.
This is the first time at a hotel where I have felt the staff were not too interested in their jobs. The staff person at check-in had a hard time taking his attention away from his cell phone. Although he did answer my questions, he gave the impression that my questions were a nuisance that were getting in the way of whatever he was doing on his phone. The person at the desk during checkout was okay--but just not the friendly desk person I usually encounter at other hotels. This is also the first time at a hotel where I never saw another customer. Hmmmm.

Ugh!Posted Mar 11, 2018
Pros: Location and continental breakfast
Cons: Entire otelk should e upgraded.
Location: Downtown Oakland. Nezr convention center.
Good location. Continental breakfast good. Lukewarm water (not hot for shower), table lamp and clock radio not repaired after reporting, blinking on-off timed light all night, noisy street with motorcycle roaring til 2 AM. Unresponsive customer service. I think Expediashould remove this hotel from your listings.

This is an older hotel with lots of charm. The staff was friendly and helpful. The property needs some repairs however.

Old hotel next to the convention center.Posted Feb 14, 2018
Pros: Location, reasonable parking ($15/nite) Across the street, Marriott which cost $40 plus.
Cons: Modernize furniture and fixtures in the lobby/bar.
Nicely remodeled room, but limited outlets for ipad/iphone charging. Free internet available, but very slow. It is an older hotel and the lobby shows it, but the rooms are adequate, and surprising quiet albeit my room was facing the street and the convention center. The bathroom was clean, and very adequate.

The historic nature of the hotel and its location is a highlight. The breakfast is comprehensive and in a beautiful room. The condition of the hotel seems not well maintained in the past year, with a decline in some areas. The limited wifi access (only in the lobby) should be better noted as part of the context for the space, especially for business travelers. The water pressure and temperatures should be maintained; I had a shower from lukewater to ice cold with little pressure. If it is warm in the city, the room is very stuffy and air system is not effective (or seems antiquated). The rooms are surprisingly quiet at night and windows can be left open, as a trade-off. The building is old and is its charm, which should be more candidly the reason to stay there. I support the hotel, especially its historic location and focus. It should be a good alternative to big business hotels (e.g. Marriott, Hyatt, etc.)

Good hotel for the pricePosted Feb 1, 2018
Pros: The burgers at restaurant
Cons: Could use some renovation
Location: $30 Uber drive to San Francisco.
I was surprisingly pleased with this hotel. Although the hotel is old, the rooms were clean and comfortable. I had business in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkley and this was very convenient Good burgers at restaurant. I would stay again.

Good location, no frills historic hotelPosted Jan 22, 2018
Pros: Location, boutique/historic, clean, simple, safe, reasonably priced.
Cons: An easier way to use the parking garage discount would be preferred; returning the parking card could be a challenge if street parking wasn't avail.
Location: Easy walk to Fox Theater and lots of restaurants and bars and shops. Easy walk to BART and Lake Merritt, too.
I stayed here on business and will consider this hotel when I stay in Oakland again, whether on business or pleasure travel. The hotel was reasonably priced. It is in a good location, easy walking to everything I needed, and although they do not have on site parking, they offered a discount on parking at the Marriott around the block ($15). The front desk was polite and professional, the room was clean and nicely updated/maintained, and the bed was comfortable. A buffet-style simple breakfast was provided in a dining room, which is always appreciated.

Hotel of HorrorsPosted Dec 29, 2017
Pros: Clean and a good location.
Cons: Night desk clerk is aggressive and rude. Hotel was mostly empty. Single female guests should probably stay somewhere else.
We chose this hotel because of the location and admittedly the price was decent (last minute and during the holidays). The hotel lobby is unique and has a big bar area but it is empty and not being used by hotel guests. I only ever saw the front desk clerk use it to sit and watch tv. The rooms are simple, but clean. The only positive of our experience was the cleanliness. So what happened? We got to our hotel room late Monday night and went straight to bed. The next morning, we had to get ready for a meeting and NO HOT WATER! It took ten minutes to reach the front desk clerk, and found out that the heating system was down. We ended up brewing water in the tiny coffee maker and sponge bathing. When we left for the day, we mentioned that someone needed to check the toilet because it was not flushing. The clerk said she would have someone fix it. We got back to the hotel late that night and it was good to see that we had hot water! unfortunately, the toilet was still not flushing. Called the front desk clerk and when he answered, he said in a loud, irritated voice "What do you need!" Oh boy! He gave us another room which was smaller, but we didn't care. The next morning tried to take a shower, and found that the hand held shower head (the room was designed for someone in a wheelchair) was busted! Water sprayed on the ceiling, and every direction! Tried to keep the shower head on the hose, but it fell off. Ended up using it like a garden hose.
