We made the decision to stay here, given the novelty of staying up Mt. Taranaki. Although, we found the place a little difficult to find (completely our fault). The address we used in the Sat Nav took us to the beginning of the road, and we weren't sure where to go from there. After about an hour of driving around trying to find the place, and being helped by a handful of kind local drivers along the way, we were so pleased to have found this place. The owners, who I believe at the time of writing have been running the place for a month or so, we so friendly, warm, and welcoming. They were very understanding of our plight, and went out of their way to make us feel relaxed. The building itself is very historical with lots of history, and the decor has a Swiss lodge feel to it. In the summer, this place is usually bustling, however as it was winter, we were the only guests, but we didn't mind at all. The owners showed us all of the rooms, all of which had there own unique character to them.
On driving to this place, at the small junction at the bottom of the hill, keep going up towards the mountain, into the national park, and as far as you can go. The lodge is at the end of the road.
Thanks to Dean and Bernie for making us feel so welcome, we wish we could have stayed longer and experienced more of Mt. Taranaki.
