This is an architectural gem, designed by Niemeyer as part of the original plan for Brasilia. Built in the early 1960s, it was rebuilt/faithfully restored in the early 2000's after a fire. For many years, all of the important folks coming to Brasilia (JFK, etc.), would stay here. In addition to being important architecturally, it's a very comfortable 1st class hotel, and it's reasonably priced. The restaurants and food are good, the staff is accommodating, the rooms are simple and lovely, the grounds are well maintained and lead directly down to the lake (and have two stunning rubber trees close to the hotel), the pool is great, and the location is quiet, safe, and close to the central mall/government buildings. (note that there is no notion of walking around in Brasilia - even though the architecture is wonderful, it's a city planned around using cars, a product of 1950s thinking).
