“We enjoyed our stay at dar lala Chafya. It was an authentic experience to live in a real Moroccan house of the old medina (Fes al bali). The house was spacious and a good size for a family of four (2 bedrooms). There was a terrace, dining room, sitting section with a tv with youtube for the kids and bathroom of good standard and size. “Location is just two minutes from entrance to the medina. The riad was just renovated few years ago, room is classic, clean and living there was a joy. Free breakfast worth a praise, we lived there five nights and each breakfast got a slightly different bread. The owner is an elegant and super nice French lady, making us just like at home. “The bell boy was very helpful but the other staff; especially those in the lobby and entrance gate was not at all. The entrance gate staff did not help us get a taxi even if we had luggage. ![The Medina of Fes El Bali is the biggest Medina in Morocco and it´s full of life!
Madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains are everywhere! But, be careful, this Medina is also the most labyrinthine, so my advice is to have a local and official guide with you, especially if you have no much time to visit the city  because you´ll probably get lost more than once! ;)

![Tucked away on one of the many side streets of Fes, with an unassuming door and front is the amazing Riad Salam Fes.

A luxury riad nestled in the old medina of Fes, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, is walking distance to so much of the old medina to discover - shopping, foods, markets, restaurants.

This is where we ate breakfast in the morning. I know...hard to handle ;)

![One of the oldest in Morocco.  I was struck by the section (not shown here) where 500 children were buried in unmarked graves, most of them dating from the 1930s-40s.  I learned later that there were both malaria and cholera epidemics that crossed North Africa during that time, and wondered if that was a contributing factor.
